Rate and Write a Review It just doesn't get more classic than Jack's Oyster House. Open for business since 1913, Jack's is a certifiable Albany institution. You can practically smell the history as you walk here. Jack's has a loyal clientele---some of their customers have been coming here for 50 years, and in order to appease their taste for old favorites while keeping one foot in more modern cuisine, Jack's has two menus: the 1913 Traditional Menu features old-school, tried-and-true dishes such as shrimp Andr, oysters Rockefeller (it isn't called an oyster house for nothing), lobster Newburg, and Jack's signature calves liver. The 2000 Dinner Menu, on the other hand, reflects a '90s leaning toward more fusion-oriented cuisine. Look for Maine lobster cakes with roasted sweet-corn salsa, pan-seared yellow-fin tuna with hoisin-ginger glaze, and grilled pork chops with mango-barbecue sauce. The wine-by-the-glass list has been expanded, but a martini might just be more fitting in these surroundings anyway. Just stopping in for a quick bite? Order up a bowl of Jack's legendary Manhattan clam chowder and take a seat at the old bar. It's open 365 days a year, and the drinks are always dependably bracing.
