With its huge red and green neon sign always ablaze, Lombardo's is hard to miss. But inside is a restaurant as famous for its Old World decor as it is for its authentic, traditional Italian fare. This well-known restaurant is among the oldest in the Capital District; its bar opened in 1919, the dining room in 1931. Waiters take pride in mentioning that nary a stick of furniture has been changed since its opening, and the high ceilings and huge paintings enhance a dining experience that is a rarity in this region. "It's the sauces," regulars rave, as the vast menu of pastas, meat dishes and seafood specialties keep the bow-tied, efficient waitstaff scurrying. Regulars might think of films such as 'Goodfellas' and 'The Godfather' when dining here, and it's not impossible to imagine Brando or DeNiro enjoying the fare at this city treasure. -- Bob Smith
