A real Alaskan experience, this restaurant has scads of memorabilia on its walls and in displays. President Carter and the First Lady once ate here while passing through Anchorage. Down-to-earth, friendly Alaskans who are happy to share what they know of Alaska, operate this restaurant. Serving all day, you may expect large portions with an Alaskan influence. Have your omelet with reindeer sausage ($7.95) or a Grilled Halibut Sandwich for lunch ($8.95). Dinner options include Barbecued Salmon ($12.95) and wine and beer is available.

Breakfast is Great!
By FentonResearch on 06/11/2008
This is the place to go for an ample breakfast with great Alaska raindeer sausage. Other meals can be OK, but beakfast is what makes this old time Alaska restaurant the place to be when the sun comes up.

a continual slide downhill

breakfast is still okay....if you can get served. I will never take visitors there for dinner again. Pretty embarrasing from cold crab legs to really tough steak. Sunday morning Bloody Mary's need improvement. A decent scrubbing wouldn't hurt this place either

Breakfast is the best - April
By patti2u on 04/04/2007
Gwennies breakfast is still the best breakfast in town! The pancakes are huge and fluffy and they even had peanut butter for them (hard to find in restaurants). Reindeer sausage is always a must ... had to give my brother the eggs as it was too much food for me after trying to eat 1/2 of the pancakes. We each brought home 1/2 servings of our slices of reindeer for our breakfast the next morning. Ran into family there, too ... that's becoming rarer and rarer around Anchorage but it still happens with us long time Alaskans. I'm hoping Gwennie's never changes their breakfast menu!

hubby loves it, I don't

Ok I will give them the, "Their servings are huge!" quote, cause they are. I ate there a few times, since I worked right around the corner, and it wasn't a chinese food or sub place. I would order their ruben, it was decent, and more food than I could eat at one sitting and fairly priced. I have had other things there, but the Ruben was the only thing I really liked there. Unlike my husband though, I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there.
