The Cavern Club is located in a cellar that was originally designed to host a German brewery called "City Brewery." The brewery was operational pre-Civil War around 1853. The brewery served the Ann Arbor area as well as a large portion of the student population until the dark days of prohibition. The site was then converted into a flour mill. The flour mill went out of business in the 1950's.
