Five Paces Inn   

The going trend in Atlanta bars has tended more toward the sophisticated, cosmopolitan approach -- i.e. more flashy cigar- and martini-filled hot spots, less beer-soaked dives. But apparently nobody at the Five Paces Inn got the memo. A fixture on the Buckhead bar scene since the mid-1950s, the Five Paces Inn has changed little over the past five decades. Instead of velvet couches and moody lighting, you get exposed pipes and stained concrete floors; instead of manhattans and sour apple-tinis, you get beer; instead of nouvelle cuisine, you get popcorn.All this is just fine with the rowdy 20-something crowd that populates the bar, giving it the feeling of a frat party for Peter Pan types who refuse to grow up. It can be a welcome respite from the attitude-laden pretense of the surrounding scene... as long as you don't mind having the occasional beer spilled on you.
