Long a famed and acclaimed design triumph, the High comes into its own. Three new buildings add to the award-winning Richard Meier design, more than doubling the Museum's exhibit space. Italian architect Renzo Piano created the new space, strengthening the High's reputation as the premier art museum in the Southeast. The High Museum houses an impressive permanent collection. The long entrance ramp delivers you into the lofty interior. Within, you'll be struck by the towering atrium with its ramps scaling one side. Take the elevator to the top floor and then move downward along the ramps through the collection of paintings, sculpture, photography and contemporary and decorative art. Large touring exhibits, such as the Matisse or Norman Rockwell shows, stop at the High when they come to Atlanta. The gift shop is a great spot to pick up books, posters and jewelry. Alon's Bakery Cafe, on the lower level, serves andwiches and desserts. Check the museum's calendar for information on the film-and-discussion series.
