The Mark   

Set in the heart of downtown's historic Fairlie-Poplar district in the building once occupied by the late, great nightclub Karma, The Mark was designed by Michael Hileman and Brandon Lewis to look like the sort of chic hotel bars you'd usually find in New York, L.A. or South Beach. Space-age bar stools and salon chairs and hip lighting give the place the look of a futuristic Stanley Kubrick fantasy, providing a sleek atmosphere in which preening metrosexual males and forward-fashion females strive to see and be seen before a backdrop of wall TVs and terrariums. From downtown businessmen and boho artists to celebs and tourists, The Mark attracts a diverse crowd, with guest DJs such as Afrika Bambataa and Grandmaster Flash occasionally dropping in to spin an equally eclectic mix of R&B, hip-hop and house music. Ladies get in free on Fridays, but their "Board Game Night" Tuesdays are perfect for those hoping to avoid the meat market crowd.
