Every city has to have a dimly lit, jazzy nightspot. Low-slung couches, small tables and a lack of a proper stage make the Red light Cafe a perfect spot to check out some improv live musicianship or spoken-word poetry. The exposed- brick walls are hung with the work of local artists. The bar serves spirits and coffee. Definitely bohemian. The Red Light Cafe has hosted everything from bebop to comedy. No matter what the flavor of the evening, you can bet it will never be so crowded you can't move, and it'll never be dull. -- Matt Wright

sloppy, rude, unorganized and overpriced

new to town and wanted to check out some live music. decided on this place because cover was cheap - only $7 - and there were supposed to be several acoustic bands, this according to the doorman and seemed to be the case based on what i read online. got there around 10 and was charged full cover, assured by doorman there would be "several bands/" Lo and behold, 20 minutes after arriving, band onstage says they are playing last song in prep for next band. Four or five songs later they say "the other (indicating one) band" did not show. The entire crowd (who all were apparently only there to see this one band) filters out. Now I have paid $7 to get in, more than $7 for a crappy pizza, and $5 per beer. Grand total including tip was $27.50 for about 20 minutes worth of music in which the female singer's high pitched twangy sounding voice gave me a throbbing headache. Not one to complain - esp about art - but this place was a joke. And, when I asked the doorman about it, expressing i felt i should get some of my money returned, he just said sorry and walked away. Then, he had the gall to say come back again. Seriously, that will never happen. What a ripoff, not to mention false advertising.
