The Wyndham is close to some of the best theaters, restaurants, museums, and galleries the city has to offer -- but it remains moderately priced... and with some special amenities. Guest rooms have reclining chairs and Bath & Body Works products in the bathrooms. The phones, equipped with data-ports, have long cords so they can be moved comfortably around the room for use at bedside or the desk. A lobby restaurant serves a breakfast buffet, a weekend brunch, and dinner. Room service is available only in the evenings. A fitness center on the lower level has a lap pool and some exercise equipment. If you want a more comprehensive workout, you can use the Health Club at Colony Square, just down the street, at a special reduced rate. Probably one of the best ways to get a workout here, though, is to head outside. You're just two blocks from Piedmont Park, a fine place for walking, jogging, rollerblading, bicycling, picnicking, and people-watching. In the evening, especially at twilight, the park provides a favorite view of the city, with the hilly terrain, the green of the trees and grass, and the glittering hardscapes of the soaring Midtown towers. Tip: Make sure your room is on the ninth floor or higher, if you are on the building's south side, facing downtown. Otherwise, you'll have a not-too-lovely view of the next door parking garage. We especially like the east-facing higher rooms for their views of the leafy-green canopied neighborhoods (you'll be amazed at how forested this city is), the red tile roofs of the condo across the street and beyond to Stone Mountain. As in many hotels, the corner rooms are somewhat bigger. Some rooms have attractive, angular bay windows that lend a larger sense of space. -- Judith Alexander Augustine
