A strict dietary regimen is not required to appreciate the creativity behind such menu offerings as the "Earth Day Quesadilla" or the "Faux-BBQ Sandwich." But such culinary flights of fancy are balanced by traditional kosher favorites like jumbo potato knishes and matzo ball soup. Classic vegetarian selections such as eggplant parmigiana and a varying quiche of the day are also available. While the focus of the menu is primarily vegetarian, there are also some seafood dishes like salmon fajitas, along with the more conventional tuna melt. Other interesting dishes include their faux-sausage jambalaya and zucchini twist pasta. The decor is slick and not a little postmodern, with the occasional mural highlighting the venerable Big Apple thoroughfare from which the establishment takes its name. The service is young and hip, with just a touch of the ephemeral aloofness one associates with things Manhattan. -- Charles Norwood
