Though most people talk about their favorite restaurants in terms of food and service, a great view can occasionally trump all other factors, and it's precisely that attribute that has made the Downwind a favorite. With two decks (one open, one enclosed) this family-owned bistro offers an exceptional view of planes departing and landing at the busy Dekalb Peachtree airfield. The classic menu's burger and sandwich lunch selections are augmented by two daily specials such as meatloaf and chicken cordon bleu. The 16-ounce Downwind Burger, stuffed with cheese, mushrooms and onions, is a favorite on the dinner menu, which is more extensive, with appetizers ranging from calamari and chicken wings to fried artichoke hearts and buffalo shrimp. The bulk of their nighttime entrees showcase Greek heritage with traditional dishes such as spanikopita, gyros and pasticcio (Greek-style lasagna). There are usually daily Greek specials, as well as a fresh fish and steak dish of the day. -- Bret Love

I love this place. Its truly a sleeper. Some of the best quality food at the most reasonable prices. I didn't think a place like this existed in Atlanta, till I found the DownWind. The staff is incredible, always upbeat. I love this place. The best burger joint in town.

This restaurant is the best thing in Chamblee. The wait staff is so friendly and that burger hits the spot every time.

PDK's secret

A great place to surprize your friends. Most people have never been there. The view of the planes, the great food and the laid back atmosphere is a pleasure for young and old alike. The burgers tie with "The Great 'Frisco Quake" in London as the best I've ever had. The staff deserve you tips, they take good care of you!
