This restaurant has expanded into a basic neighborhood trattoria that remains packed with neighbors despite a management change. With careful choosing and instruction, one can eat decently here. Most of the better dishes are found among the appetizers, especially the calamari in marinara sauce and the clams in white sauce. Fish sometimes is overcooked, so if you're particular advise the waiter how you wish it done when you order. Some might find the overall garlic level in dishes excessive. The wine list is lengthy but the house by-the-glass selections are ordinary. The Kris Pinot Grigio is a good choice with much of the food here.

This "was" the best kept secret in Atlanta, but not anymore. The word is out! This restaurant has the best Italian food I have ever eaten!! I grew up in New York and have been to Italy and nothing compares!! If you are a Northerner, think of the best Italian restaurant you have been to near where you live, and this will be so much better! First of all, when you walk in, the ambience is one of warmth. The people greeting you are so warm and friendly and make sure that everything you need is taken care of. When you are seated you immediately receive water and an antipasto plate that is scrumptious!! Hot bread keeps flowing to the table, wrapped in white cotton dinner napkins to keep it warm. The service is superb, with servers at your beck and call.

My husband and I have made friends there this past New Year's Eve and also we had one of our daughters' high school graduation party there in one of the two back rooms they have.

If you schedule a party with them, you will surely have a blast. Best of all the music keeps playing from opera with Andre Boccelli to 70's Disco music with Saturday Night Fever, The Beegees, Donna Summer and more. The disco ball turns and the spectrum of lights fills the room. What a great time. You just want to get up and dance and we do!!

The end of the meal is sometimes (when available) topped off with a dessert not featured on the menu.

When you leave Il Localino, you will be thinking of the next occasion that will bring you back there and also who can accompany you.

JUST A GREAT DINING EXPERIENCE. 5 STARS!!!!

Special Dinner, Special Place

The PNB surprised me Valentine's Day with dinner at Il Localino, a trattoria a stone's throw from Sotto Sotto and wedged betwixt Casbah and Wisteria in the area I believe's still known locally as Poncey-Highland. A special antipasto of grilled, roasted and marinated vegetables, imported cold cuts and mozzarella caprese was followed by black Angus in Vecchia romagna brandy, for him, and veal Scaloppini Pizzaiola, for me. Pasta a la Valentino in a pink champagne sauce accompanied both our entree choices. Cocoa-infused marscapone, cakey and creamy at once, was served for our dessert, and the chef even poured us complimentary glasses of a good Merlot. Can't say whether everynight's as special here, but Go! I doubt you'll be disappointed. Their decor's Little Italy-ish, and disco music complete with spinning mirrorball pumped up the mood.
