The SceneThe rustic, elegant decor is nearly outdone by the stunning view of the Chattahoochee. The dining room mixes lodge atmosphere with modern touches: ironwork accents, a ceiling inverted to resemble the inside of a canoe, and an exposed kitchen. Service is warm and attentive. A dressy casual crowd meets here to celebrate special occasions and enjoy the patio in nice weather. The Food Chef Carvel Grant Gould reinvents the New American menu every few months, mixing and matching seasonal ingredients with aplomb. Parsley creme fraiche balances the earthiness of wild mushroom soup. Sliced, diced and pounded tuna is fresh, with a mild sesame-mustard dressing. An entree of bacon-wrapped monkfish is a sublime mixture of salty and sweet; huckleberries complement the smokiness of roasted venison. To finish, a trio of creme brulee succeeds with coffee and vanilla.

After reading these reviews I was worried about the attitude of the waitstaff, but our waitress was very good. My only complaint there was that they really try to push the sale of alcohol on you. The food was overall very good. The bread basket was great! We couldn't get enough of the lavosh bread. The house salad was just ok. It was so hard to choose a main course. We both got the artic char, it was very good! The dessert of warm chocolate souffle cake was outstanding! I would go back just for that! The view of the river from our table was peaceful and made for a romantic atmosphere.

I visited this restaurant a couple of years ago, as I heard so much about its nice decor (being a designer and all).. --I liked the setting, however, the menu was too pricy and the food was too generic. Although, I did like the bread basket that came w/ it.

Dined on 12/28/02. Food was fantastic, service just wonderful. 3/4's way through the meal 8 people sat next to us where very rude and abrasive and made it impossible to have a conversation at out table. The management did nothing but yet when we left and complained they where most apologetic. Sorry I did not just complain earlier. Suggest that the staff be trained to deal with these types of situations!

We dined at Canoe for our anniversary on Aug 28th. The food was good but only lukewarm. I prefer my meal to be just out of the oven or off the grill. We also had to wait on it for about 30 minutes. However, I enjoyed the atmosphere and I may go back again.
