If you have a soft spot for smoked barbecue and enjoy the casual characteristic of Southern settings, Swallow at the Hollow has both down to a science. Inside the tin-roofed house, folks knock back plates of baby-back ribs, flaky biscuits and slices of tender beef. There's also homemade grilled sausage that is served both on a sandwich and as an entree with two sides -- the macaroni and cheese and coleslaw are some favorites. You'll also find Brunswick stew that ranks highly among Southern connoisseurs who also go for the almost-gourmet pit-cooked portabella sandwich with smoked gouda and fried green tomatoes. Top off your selection with your choice of three distinct sauces flavored with tomato, mustard or vinegar. Service with a smile completes the Southern feast. And so does a generous helping of the mouthwatering banana pudding. The venue also serves up live musical acts on Friday and Saturday nights. -- Lauren Strish

Okay, Not Excellent
By guholland on 08/11/2007
We got the baby-back ribs, which were not meaty, tough and a decent amount of fat on them. The bbq sauce was okay, but on a higher quality meat product, it probably would have been better. The ribs were served with "wet" bbq sauce, which added the only amount of moisture to the ribs. I was a fan of the cole-slaw, macaroni and cheese, however the baked beans were over-cooked and had lost their texture. I was impressed to see fresh loaves of bread, used for Texas toast, however again, not that much flavor as served. Atmosphere is interesting. Everyone seemed to be having a fantastic time, and I can appreciate a bbq restaurant with a music venue. I would not return to this restaurant, especially because you're looking at a restaurant without great food and without an effecient working air conditioner.
