Sure, karaoke has taken off in the past couple of years like Superman vaulting the Daily Planet building. Few amongst us hasnt at least glimpsed the karaoke phenomenon, and most have graced the stage at least once with a rendition of one of our popular favorites. Karaoke provides the sole live entertainment in certain country bars and is catching on even in the punk rock world. All that said, if you want to see some serious karaoke by some serious contenders, you need look no further than the Common Interest. The regulars here are not just looking for a few yucks in between cocktails. These are true singers, and they take their art to heart. Thats not to say theres not the obligatory legion of fun-loving amateurs who drop in from time to time to shake things up. But by and large, this is karaoke for the karaoke lover. You can catch some knock-out performances here, by some folks whove got chops. And even if youre just looking for a chance to belt out your own special rendition of White Wedding, you can bet these guys are going to be all ears.

Best selection in town

Since they rebuilt the place after the fire, it is one of the nicest karaoke bars I have ever seen. The book is huge. The people are always fun and nice.

Gay Scene
By davidleespicer on 02/17/2004
Common Interest is apparently a favorite for the gay community. Be forwarned... unless you want to see a pack of lesbians making out on stage, stay away. Also, the air in the place is the foulest I've ever breathed. Not worth it at all.

I've been to all of the Karaoke Clubs in Austin, also many in other cities and this is by far the friendliest and most fun. It's like a Cheers with singers!
