The original Belvedere mansion was built by Gen. John Eager Howard in 1776. After the general's death, it was bought and demolished and ultimately, a hotel was built on the site. Though it changed hands many times, the historic buiding we see today was completed in 1903 and drew a crowd of the city's elite until 1976. The grand building today has been divided into condos and shops, and it still houses the famous Owl Bar and Club 13, located (where else?) on the 13th floor. The Belvedere is a tribute to the lasting history of this fine city.
