With an ambience that is part lounge, part upscale dining room, this Howard Street eatery attracts matrons and business folks who want high- quality meals that don't mean downtown eating. Playing to the entertainment angle, the restaurant management names many of its dishes after famous African-American entertainers -- Billie Holiday grilled salmon, Louis Armstrong catfish, John Coltrane pork chops, to name a few - - and bases its cooking on popular Southern fare. Sides include macaroni and cheese and Southern collard greens, with homemade biscuits and cornbread on the side. You'll even find yummy homestyle desserts, including bread pudding, rice pudding and apple dumplings. Check out the lunch and brunch buffets for some first-rate nonstop eating.

Well Britton's is gone and has been replaced by The Southern Blues Cafe. Pretty much the same Jazzy Theme. Have not had dinner there, but the wings were superb, and the Martinis were dry and powerful!

Never again! I visited Britton's once...once too many. The service was extremely slow. The food...blah. I really looked forward to a good, healthy serving of baked macaroni and cheese. What i received was so bland, that i barely ate it. The best thing about my evening were the cornbread muffins and sweet tea. What a $30 waste!

I had dinner at Britton & Jackson once and that was enough for me. I felt the food was mediocre. I was disappointed. I don't mind paying for a good meal but according to the flavor of my dish the price was just not worth it. Furthermore, I feel it is tacky to post on a menu that there is a price for bread. Bread is usually complimentary. The atmosphere was okay. However, overall the restaurant in my opinion is overrated.
