They play lotto and keno all day long. They also serve breakfast, lunch and dinner all day long. At Ashland Cafe, they try to give the people what they want when they want it. All of this is done in an atmosphere that is as homestyled and as cozy as can be. Meatloaf, juicy hamburgers, sizzling fries and sweetened iced tea are just some of the courses you'll swear your mom made back in the kitchen. A model train runs around above the tables, completing the ideal illusion of home sweet home.

Food Okay, Service Fair
By Soundriven on 05/31/2008
Good fried eggs, bacon, toast and hash browns. I go there every 2nd and 4th Tuesday for breakfast with a bunch of retired gentlemen from the old neighborhood...and order 2 fried eggs over easy, bacon, whole wheat toast and hash browns...and it seems to come out in a reasonable amount of time (usually along with all of the rest of our table's orders, which these days is quite commendable) looking and tasting about like what its supposed to look and taste like—no great culinary accomplishment, but it's at least as good as what I can make myself. The coffee however is totally uninspired. They need to re-think the coffee...and maybe offer some espresso drinks (if they in fact DO offer espresso drinks, then it is not obvious to me). The service is okay, except that the same bunch of young women wait on us every week, and are somewhat impersonal, and have on occasion given us a hard time about exactly where and how the 6-8-10-12 of us sit in the dining room. When we push tables together they frequently ask us to push them together a different way, as one of the tables included in the new arrangement might be in a different waitress' "territory". Thats not very customer-oriented manner in which to treat a group of people who get together there regularly, always leave at least a 20% tip, and who have spent a-couple-a thousand dollars (all cash, never credit card) a year there for the past several years. As far as the food goes I would rate the Ashland "normal", which would lie somewhere between "Fair" and "Good". But giving such impersonal service to good solid customers like my friends and i would take it down more into "Fair" territory...in my opinion.

If anyone here has something good to say about this pit, they must be the owner pretending to be a customer.

Not the greatest experience
By uniquemind4u on 03/02/2006
I went to this place, and it looked nice and the staff seemed very helpful. Well then came the waitress, who did a poor job taking my order. The chocolate chip pancakes were great! But the western omlette was not so great. She gave me toast instead of my biscuit. So if you just want to go there, I recommend take-out. And stay away from the omelette. I would suggest people go to the Ugly Muffin which is down the street off Cranbrook Road. They have a spectacular breakfast ensemble.
