Mention this Westminster institution to someone who lives in Carroll County and you'll be greeted with a smile similar to that on the restaurant's happy apple logo. Baugher's is one of those rare finds that creates a dilemma: Do you keep it to yourself or share it with your friends and risk it becoming more crowded? You can ponder those questions as you motor through scenic farmlands to this affordable family favorite, where the most expensive item on the menu is a $12 seafood plate. The restaurant focuses on quality served in large quantities and it offers old-style favorites such as roast turkey, fried chicken and pork chops. Lunch and breakfast are available, too -- but pay close attention to the time. When Baugher's says it won't cook hotcakes, creamed chipped beef or poached eggs after 11:30AM, they mean it. One of the biggest challenges of a Baugher's meal is saving room for the scrumptious desserts. Homemade ice creams and pies (more than 30 varieties, including some sugarless) have been delighting stuffed diners for decades. The Baughers also operate a nearby bakery, fruit market and pick-your-own orchard. -- Pete Kerzel

No - Sugar Added
By DeanneC on 07/02/2008
The No-Sugar added pie is wonderful. Made fresh from their own apples, can be purchased to go in an adorable 5 inch pie. Great thought for those counting carbs...or avoiding processed sugar. A bit out of the way but worth it. More restaurants should offer such variety for people challenged with diets options.
