Welcome the new year with a special menu and a champagne toast at midnight. But be sure to make a reservation in advance because a night as romantic as this shouldn't be left to chance Places like Bicycle breed recycled adjectives -- trendy, hip, funky, eclectic -- but what else can you say? Simply reading the menu helps to visualize this 'global bistro' in trendy, hip, funky, eclectic Federal Hill. The pan-fried, cornmeal-encrusted oyster salad with roasted garlic aioli and chipotle-chile vinaigrette is a good clue you've strayed far from Red Lobster territory. Detractors say it's noisy, busy and that diners are squeezed into too-small tables like kids at a birthday party.Bicycle, however, is doing something right because reservations are a must (and should be made long in advance), and after opening in 2000, it received several best new restaurant awards. An outdoor dining addition has also helped relieve the crowding. The menu borrows from Indian, French, Italian and South American cuisines, among others, so expect to discover items such as Thai-style rockfish wrapped in banana leaves with banana chutney, red curry sauce and black sticky rice. Great Little Bistro in Federal Hill
By Bibibissette on 06/06/2008
The food and service were excellent! The lamb chops were well seasoned and were tender (rare to find). And, the portions given were just enough to be filling. It would be great if it were open for lunch.

Excellent 6/20/05

Went there with my wife on a quiet Monday night. The neighborhood is a block or two from the expanding "good" section, but seemed safe enough. The service and food were fantastic, as good as anything I've had in similar hip restaurants in NY or NJ -- and this is in Baltimore. We both loved it, you can't go wrong with this place unless you are looking for a water view or a nice apres` dinner stroll because there is no good strolling area around this neighborhood. You definitely get what you pay for in this case. I've eaten in the big-name places down at the inner harbor of Baltimore and generally been disappointed by the time I got to the check. I recommend the Bicycle to anyone.

My third time at bicycle. Have loved the food every time. The Mahi Mahi I had this last Saturday was wonderful.I can accept the noise level and the casualness of the place, but definately felt we deserved a proper table, instead of the rediculous little square we were shown to.It was SAturday night and we were only two this time, but we needed to remove the water glasses and any thing else that was not needed just to read the menu comfortably.Again the food was greatly enjoyed, but after dropping 175dollars including tip,we felt we should have been more comfortable. Will we return? maybe, but not on a Saturday night, and not as a twosome.
