Forward-thinking Charm City restaurateur Steve DeCastro has already done steak (Ruth's Chris), a cigar bar (Havana Club) and Cuban (Babalu Grill) in his little corner of Power Plant Live. Now he's filled in a gap -- where trendy Red Coral used to be -- with a sleek seafood establishment called Blue Sea Grill, where a hip feel meets a retro texture. This is a worthy alternative to chain seafood places dotting the harbor. Since Blue Sea Grill only sells the finest fresh offerings from the sea, its pricey menu depends on what's been caught and shipped. You'll find as many as a dozen varieties of clams/oysters on the half-shell, six steamed specialties (clams, mussels, scallops) and six crustaceans (Dungeness, stone crab or Chilean spinycrab) -- or you can spend $69 for the grand raw bar platter that will feed the table. From caviar to calamari to crab cakes, meals can be made from the appetizer list. Main plate fresh catches include whole yellow tail snapper or rockfish, mahi mahi or wahoo filet, or swordfish, king salmon or halibut steaks. Pan-seared snapper, shrimp and scallop linguini, filet mignon, roasted chicken and fried catfish give you a taste of seafood around the globe.

The decor might appeal to some, we found it stark and cold. My fish dish was very good, my wife's crab cakes might have come out of a Mrs. Pauls package. We couldn't believe that an expensive Baltimore seafood restaurant couldn't make a crabcake !

I WENT AT BLUE SEA GRILL LAST NIGHT WITH MY WIFE FOR RESTAURANT WEEK AND TO ANTICIPATE VALENTINE. SHE CHOOSED THE SPECIAL MENU, AND SHE HAD THE BEST MUSSELS EVER. FOR MY PART I LOVE OYSTER'S AND YOU GOT TO TRY THE MOONSTONES OUT OF THIS WORLD. FOR MY ENTREES I HAD THE BRONZINI AND IT WAS COOKED AT PERFECTION, JUST LIKE WHEN I HAD IT IN SORRENTO. THYS PLACE IT'S A MUST TRY FOR EVERYONE, AND ASK FOR SAMANTHA TO BE YOUR SERVER, SHE WILL HELP YOU IN YOUR DECISIONS AND GOING BEYOND YOU WILL EVER EXPECT. OH DON'T FORGET TO ORDER THE PINEAPPLE UPSIDE DOWN.

A real pearl

Open the shell of this eclectic raw bar and you'll find its bounty is worth returning to. I have eaten here on several occasions and find myself wanting more. I like to make my own meals from the list of appetizers. Happy hour starts at 4 or 4:30 so it’s a perfect place to start your evening before walking over to the Havana Club, Babalu or any of the assortment of clubs at Planet Live.
