The classy Capital Grille confirms America's love affair with aged steaks in opulent settings. Dark and clubby yet casual and welcoming, the Grille shows off its claim to fame before you ever sit down: the glassed-in dry aging room. Power lunchers rub shoulders with serious shoppers at lunch, office parties share space with courting couples by night. The huge portions and high prices aren't too conducive to family outings. Steak is the name of the game; steak au poivre with a cognac cream sauce draws raves, as does the juicy ribeye. The 24-ounce Porterhouse is overwhelming, but makes for great leftovers. Capital Grille handles seafood with panache, too, from gently steamed sweet lobster to thick and perfectly grilled swordfish steaks with just a hint of lemon. Vegetable side dishes are bountiful.
