A combination of mahogany and stained glass adorns this polished Irish pub. Stained glass lamps hang from the ceiling, illuminating the interior, and stained glass panels with sea scenes decorate the partition between bar and dining area. The menu includes several sandwiches and burgers, traditional Irish dishes like shepherd's pie -- a combination of ground beef, carrots and peas -- topped with mashed potatoes, fish and chips, and fancier meals like filet mignon, pan-seared and wrapped with a seasoned puff pastry strip, then topped with bearnaise sauce. Both wine and beer are served, including one house brew. James Joyce and other famous Irish authors peer down upon patrons from large oil paintings in the dining area, but the bar is hung with old, framed black-and-white photos of boxers and football teams, for a chummy yet quaint, antiqued atmosphere. The pub offers live Irish music most weekends, on Fridays and Saturdays, starting around 9PM. -- Tracy Vogel

Great authentic Irish Pub
By garrettskeating on 02/25/2006
Of all the Irish pubs I have frequented this one is by far in my top five. Located in Historic Annapolis, Maryland, Castlebay offers a wonderful atmosphere with live music 5 nights a week. No cover charge either! They have some highly skilled bartenders that know how a Pint should be poured. In fact Castlebay serves the best pint of Guinness in Annapolis. It's consistent and poured with all the care that it should be and in 20oz glasses of course. I'd highly recommend stopping in for a quick drink or a wonderful meal. Located in the shopping area of downtown Annapolis it's a great place to top in for lunch. You will not be disappointed. If you are into micro brews then this in your place. Castlebay is one of two bars in Annapolis that brew their local beer on premises. Be sure to ask Vincent Quinlan, the owner to explain the whole brew process to you. Their beer is called Three Nuns and it is the only Nitrogenized micro brew I have ever had. It's a smooth, medium amber ale. Your server or bartender would be happy to give you a small taster if you are unsure. This is a great little pub and if you are in the area it's a must see!

Great atmosphere along with great food and drinks. Feels like a bit of Ireland without having to get on a plane. The management is very friendly and always have the customer in mind!
