This casual, gay-friendly eatery in Mt. Vernon has expanded from its original self-service cafe, adding an airy dining room and a full dinner menu. The room's a winner, modishly decked out in black, white, and gray. But forgo such inexpertly cooked entrees as the halibut over black beans with jicama fries and rely instead on the more casual roster of sandwiches and light fare. The vegetarian burger, for instance, is surprisingly flavorful and the pastas, like the chicken with pesto cream, tend to be rich but generally good. House-made desserts are worthy of a visit on their own.

Great People-Big Scene
City Cafe is such a busy restaurant it's a wonder how they keep it all humming ever so smoothly. I've been a regular for five years now. From Monday night's half-price burgers to Friday night 's bar crowd-it's always busy and usually good - I mostly keep coming back because of all the wonderful people that make me feel ever so welcomed there. You can find more sohisticated food elsewhere but for a consistently good time at a fair price I'll stick with City Cafe. My only gripe- Too many others seem to agree with me!

Slow Servers Best to go to the counter and order yourself but for the cost why bother Its there and people go to it i hope some one opens something in area so they have some competition and get their act together SYSCO much ???
