This sleek, contemporary restaurant opened in 2001 and is named for a tall, slender flower native to South Africa. Hues of blue are accentuated by white tablecloths, setting the stage for culinary exploration with a number of cuisines. Beaded chandeliers, an interior waterfall and ceiling-high draperies create an inviting, exciting, romantic atmosphere. Appetizers such as Pumpkin Ricotta Ravioli, Grilled Octopus or Seafood Paella set the stage for your journey. Standard dishes like duck, tuna or filet mignon are complemented by a variety of ethnic touches. But the one-time home of Louie's Bookstore Cafe strikes gold when it meshes seafood dishes with seasonings from the Far East, such as the Asian-style cioppino, a combination of scallops, Prince Edward Island mussels, lump crab meat and halibut simmered in a sofrito broth. A 25-foot black granite bar invites diners to cool their heels before or after dinner and Ixia is a popular post-curtain destination for the theater crowd. Occasionally, Ixia hosts wine dinners, featuring vintages from around the world that make a perfect accompaniment for its fusion blend of American, Asian and Pacific Rim flavors. -- Pete Kerzel

Manhattan comes to Baltimore
By k9mark60 on 04/14/2007
Looking for a place to impress on a special occaision or date? This is a beautiful restaurant and impressive in every way without being pretentious or overdone. Visually the restaurant is beautiful and, on a friday or saturday night is filled with the beautiful sounds of a live jazz band. When we were there the band was just right, adding a beautiful ambiance but not in any way intrusive. The tables are elegently set, nicely spaced and those along the windoed wall have a beautiful view of Charles St. We had a lobster cheese fondue appetizer which had the most wonderfully complex flavor that just melted in our mouths. Our fish entrees, mine Rockfish and hers Salmon, were perfectly and delicately cooked, served on a beatiful plate with nice fressh greens. Just as pleasing to the eye as they were to the palate. The wine selection was broad and we got a very pleasant bottle for less than $50, although there were options to spend much more for other selections. After dinner the waitress suggested we have a cocktail in the lounge and while it wasn't at all in our plans we decided we just take a look at the lounge for future reference. Wow is all I can say, there probably a dozen diferent, comfortable and unusual couches and love seats set in the area along the bar and a long list of specialty martinis as well as pretty much any premium liquor one could want. At the end of the night I was surprised when we walked outside and weren't in Manhattan!
