Don't be surprised if the bartender at James Joyce Irish Pub & Restaurant speaks with a thick Emerald Isle accent. Or if there's a soccer match playing on the TV. With its rich wood tones, stained glass and din of friendly chatter, James Joyce is a bit o' blarney right on the Baltimore harbor. Barstools are comfortable and the neatly arranged wooden tables and upholstered chairs afford intimacy and privacy, particularly in the darker nooks and crannies. Stop at the bar -- where carved signs dispense such wisdom as "How to avoid a hangover: Stay drunk" -- and you can choose between Harp, Newcastle Ale, Guinness, Bass Ale and James Joyce Amber. Repair to the dining areas that surround the bar and you can feast on inexpensive pub grub with an Irish flair. Oak-smoked salmon, Irish potato soup and farmhouse skins are among the appetizers, while main courses include Molly Bloom's chicken (a breast filled with spinach, red pepper and cream cheese, wrapped in bacon and a breaded Parmesan crust), rack of lamb or rainbow trout in a light shrimp mousse. Traditional favorites such as shepherd's pie, lamb stew and corned beef and cabbage are the perfect accompaniments for the pint you'll hoist. -- Pete Kerzel

Nice pub

The staff is very friendly, service was good. Food was fine, nothing fancy. Not overpriced for being near the Inner Harbor. The keg beer was very good. Noisy bar, but you expect that in an Irish pub. Good overall experience.
