Sip & Bite is a friendly neighborhood nook with a diner's feel as well as a welcome oasis to the night owls of the world, who take full advantage of the place's round-the-clock hours. Many a bar-hopper in Fells Point and Canton has found his way to this corner eatery wedged conveniently between the two communities. When the taverns close at 2AM, Sip & Bite is hopping with folks slugging down coffee, getting an early start on breakfast or filling themselves with stick-to-your-ribs food in hopes of preventing -- or at least blunting -- a hangover. Traditional fare is offered at breakfast: omelets, cream chipped beef over toast and hotcakes. For lunch, you'll find a variety of hot and cold sandwiches. Dinner promises homestyle basics, including steaks, crab cakes, baked ham and applesauce, spaghetti and chicken livers. Invest the time to read the daily specials, a one-page insert to the menu, where you'll be enticed by favorites such as lamb chops, meatloaf and chicken pot pies. The place is small, just a lunch counter and a dozen tiny booths; and though the coffee's always hot, don't linger or you might draw an unwelcome stare from those waiting for a table. -- Pete Kerzel
