At Tapas Teatro, the dimmed lighting, interesting decor and exotic dishes all combine to create a sensuous atmosphere. This intimate Mediterranean cafe has a strong lunch and dinner following, and it is often hard to get a table. But when you do, it's worth the wait. The menu features a wide range of tapas -- the Spanish version of hors d'oeuvres. If you're looking for suggestions, the wait staff is attentive and helpful. One dish alone will not satisfy your hunger, but ordering many different dishes and sharing is the fun and style of this restaurant. The menu's memorable items include garlic shrimp, grilled lamb chops, beef tenderloin and spicy sausage. Steamed spinach, crabmeat and cheese is a good choice, as is the spicy gazpacho. The dessert menu is just as creative and tasty. Their cardamom ice cream is a must -- so is the creamy flan and chocolate hazelnut cake, leaving you to make a tough decision. The bar highlight is the authentic sangria, but also offers a wide range of wines, beers, port and sherries. Tapas Teatro is connected to The Charles -- Baltimore's artsy movie theater. -- Laura Maguire

There were 5 of us. We really didnt have to wait that long. Te food and Sangria were to die for. Our waiter was a little slow but the place made up for it. I will return over and over again!

one of my favorites....
By snotisha on 04/28/2004
I love this place. I coerced my boyfriend -- who doesn't like going out for dinner -- to go with me one Saturday, and it's now his favorite place to eat out. From the complimentary bread and olives to the dessert, the food was delicious. And there's such a great selection, we keep going back to try new items. My personal favorite so far is the Two-Tomato Tapas -- simple but perfectly delicious. Tip: Drop in at 4:30 on the weekend, right when it opens, so you don't have to wait.
