With cheerful window boxes and tidy black awnings, Pete's Grille is certainly the most charming spot on this somewhat scruffy five-way intersection in Waverly. Inside, a wooden counter lined with black stools stretches the length of the narrow building and leaves no room for tables, making it counter service and carry out only. The lack of tables makes for a chummier atmosphere, where conversations can skip down the row of stools from staff to patrons and back. Open just for breakfast and lunch, the morning meal is where Pete's truly shines. The most beloved breakfast item is the blueberry pancake. That's right, not "pancakes," because just one of these thick, dinner plate-size treats is enough for most of us. And since breakfast is the most important meal when you're harboring Olympic dreams (think Wheaties), swimmer Michael Phelps has been known to load up here. However, for him one blueberry pancake -- however enormous -- is definitely not enough. -- Laureen Miles Brunelli

It has seen better times
By U2Rinmyvillage on 06/21/2008
I don't know what the attraction of this place is, but it used to be good. Service and food were the best, now the service has gone down hill, the food tastes greasy and cheap, very much truck dining style. I prefer more upscale service and food than this rugged corner.

Like Eating w/Friends N Family
By mink42002 on 06/07/2006
The food is so good, the scrapple is thick, the grits are soft an thick and the pancakes are huge. The western omelets have an enormous amouts of onions, green peppers and tomatoes. And don't forgot the cheese please! Everytime you go to eat you may run into someone you know from the past an pick up where you left off. You might even see your pastor in there on Sunday morning. So have a seat, meet, greet and eat. Most of all enjoy!! And savor the flavor of Pete's Grill.

Like Eating At Home
By ccd417 on 01/29/2006
Family is the one word I would use to describe this place because thats how they treat at Pete's Grille. It's said that you get what you pay for well not at Pete's because the prices are so low and the quality and portions of the food are so great. Thats why I only eat at Pete's because it's like eating at home with family!

Unpretentious good food...
By jeanniesquest on 01/27/2006
Served by an unpretentious staff who make the effort to remember what you usually order, including any special requests. My favorite is the ham and cheese omelette made with American cheese, thank you very much. The homefries are the best I've had in Baltimore. Service is amazingly quick, which is why you can still get seated quickly even if there is a line that goes all the way to the door when you first walk in. Yes, seating is limited since there is counter service, not tables, but the close quarters is one of the things I like about Pete's. I have had some great conversations with complete strangers, which is a great experience for someone new to Baltimore. Pete's is for those of you who enjoy a good, hearty breakfast or lunch in an unpretentious neighborhood restaurant. If you're looking for white tablecloth-covered tables, creative cuisine, and a snooty waitstaff, then go somewhere else!
