Located in Brigham Circle, down the street from Mass. Art, you can find the Choppin' Block Pub. Looking up at the Choppin' Block Pub's sign, which hangs proudly over the entrance, you are bound to think, ''My, this seems like a quaint little pub.''Not quite. What the Choppin' Block does offer, however, is a setting that transcends race, creed and age and a relaxed, albeit divey, bar to hang out in comfort. The biggest problem with the Choppin' Block is that there is nothing on tap. Nada. This tends to be a serious sticking point for a customer, unless of course you live right next to the bar or you are just looking for a place where no one is going to bother you. What the bar does offer are bottles of Bud, Bud Light, Heineken and a few others. Choppin' Block also carries an extensive liquor collection, although the bartenders aren't allowed to mix more than two types of liquor (sorry, all you fans of Long Island Ice Tea). The Choppin' Block has music seven nights a week, and it's usually free. The Wednesday Night Jazz Jam is a real crowd pleaser. There is seating near the stage at the bar or to the back of the bar behind a quasi-wall. The bar has two TVs and a large instant action scratch ticket machine. On the down side, this probably isn't the place to impress your date or to look for a date. However, that isn't what the Choppin' Block is about anyhow. Overall, it's the type of spot you might have found Bukowski, until the kids started to come in and turned the place into a hipper spot that offered music. -- Stack Lee

It's been closed for over a year. Perhaps it should be removed from your site.

Living in Mission hill has its up side and down side and the Choppin' Block is one of the ups. I have seen bands that played sold out shows in other cities play secret shows at the Choppin' Block....thrown amazing birthday parties there (we were allowed to charge a cover and give the money to the B-Day girl) and had some of the biggest, strongest shots ever. The Choppin' Block is amazing.

Truly a Boston Staple! What a hoot those two bartenders are, without a doubt the best in the city.
