Rate and Write a Review Not too long ago, The Abbey reveled in an unofficial honor as the city's most notorious dive bar, with one of the most pure rock 'n' roll scenes around -- and by pure, we mean loud, dirty, sexy (including autographed lingerie hanging from the walls) and not always very good. But thanks to a much-needed renovation and the addition of an attached wine bar, The Abbey no longer is weighted with that dubious honor. Fortunately, the scene hasn't changed a bit. Live music four nights a week means two things here: heavy beverage consumption and hazy memories the next morning. Split into two rooms, the main stage is barely wide enough for four people and a drum kit. If you're shy about breaking a sweat with total strangers, the tight quarters in front of the stage might not be for you. Instead, you can always hang back by the bar in the front portion of the club, where a surprisingly elaborate selection of beer and drinks can soothe sore vocal chords. There is also a pub stage where solo acoustic acts perform early in the evenings. The dress code here is simple: Wear anything that shows off your tattoos. Leather jackets are also highly recommended. Not in the mood for loud rock and a beer-soaked shirt? Then head next door to The Abbey's more grown-up offshoot, the Z Wine Bar. Completely separated from the rock next door, this wine bar serves up a collection of vino at moderate prices while offering Italian-themed appetizers for late-night munchies. If you get hungry while still at the Abbey, just ask the bartender for the Z menu and youll be served in no time.
