B&G Oysters is a modern yet classic take on the oyster bar. Located in Boston's South End, B&G Oysters has a decidedly neighborhood feel, combining polished but friendly service with fantastically fresh seafood dishes and food-friendly wines. B&G Oysters has received many accolades over the years for its cuisine and wine program including "Best Seafood" in 2007 and 2008 by Boston Magazine. This subterranean spot draws energy from its open kitchen which is surrounded by a white marble bar. In warmer weather, enjoy drinks and more on the stone patio; a favorite outdoor dining spot in the city.

an excellent restaurant
By bigboynortheas on 02/26/2007
visited B and G late Feb 2007. This is a restaurant done extremely well. And I do mean extremely well. In fact, you really could not improve upon this concept. Let's start with the wines by the glass: 4 whites of interesting varieties. 5 reds and a few sparklers. the wines were very good and for 11 dollars or so, a real bargain considering their impressive quality. someone put some thought into this wine selection. of course the oysters are the primary reason to visit here, but the cooked seafood is outstanding also. the calamari is fried but has the zip of chili peppers. super fresh and light Fried clams and fried oysters would put Woodman's to shame. Service is excellent. the place is small, but very efficient. About 15 different very fresh types of oysters and they were superb, on the half shell Barbara Lynch hits a massive home run with this place. I can't wait to visit her butcher shop meat restaurant next door soon. This restaurant gets a 9.5 out of 10. Even the valet parkers were great.

Good, but pricey
By skianddoo65 on 02/23/2005
Food was very good, but if we hadn't had oysters, split an appetizer, eaten the roll and ordered dessert, I would have still been hungry leaving. Entree sizes are small for the price. I had the cod with risotto, but for $24, I would have expected a little more risotto than about 1/4 cup. It's rice? What could the food cost be on another 1/2 cup? Fish portion was also small and thin, unlike the thick loin pieces I'm accustomed to in other restaurants of similar cuisine and price. My friend had the scallops and although they were good sized, again, 4 scallops for $24 with a paltry serving of vegetables under them that are more for garnish than for contributing to the meal. I also noticed the iceburg salad was a little on the puny side. I believe it was only 1/8 wedge from where I was seated. Again, this is where doubling the size of the wedge would be a nominal cost to boost this $9 salad. Fried calamari was good, but non-imaginative. Desserts were also rather uninspired. Two banana offerings? I hate bananas so that limited me to the pudding or the triple chocoate brownie. Never being one to turn down chocolate, I opted for this rather disappointing choice. The brownie seemed stale, even though it was draped with some type of zabaglione and raspberry sauce. Too many different flavors going on for my taste. My friend had the banana royale and enjoyed it. Service was excellent, although we weren't offered coffee with dessert which would have been nice. No other complaints there. All in all, a great place for Paris Hilton to keep her figure (minus the fried stuff and desserts). No wait to get in at 7:00, but it filled up by 9:00 on Tuesday.

This is an excellent place, especially if you love oysters. My sister took me here for my 32nd birthday a week ago tomorrow, and God was I impressed with the extent and variety of these sea creatures. We also had some lobster fritters to balance out our food-intake... oh yeah, and Amy at no. 9 first recommended I go here
