Bill's is a Lansdowne Street fixture that dares to rock on an avenue known for its dance clubs. The week starts with hard-rocking Monsta Monday -- proof that heavy metal is still alive and kicking. On Wednesday you get a dose of funk with Groove night featuring DJ Tim Collins along with some live music. Various, really alternative (not pop alternative) bands come to play on Underground Thursday. Finally, get a taste of the islands on Reggae Sunday. If you'd rather just bop around to more traditional, popular rock music you can come by on Friday and Saturday. You'll get radio rock and WBCN's Bill Abbate jockeying between sets. The groovy dcor is seasoned with red, hanging lights and a ''Dead Musician's Society'' collection of portraits. The ladies room is (for lack of a better word) sanctified by Marilyn Monroe memorabilia and the men's room is a shrine honoring Elvis Presley. So, you can sit on the throne in a room dedicated to The King. Hmm. -- Carl Salminen TIP: Bill's is a small place for such loud, live music and you'll feel (through the bass) why. When the PA kicks in, the thump of the base could stop a pacemaker. Be prepared.

ONE STAR for the sound system. MINUS FOUR STARS for the boring crowd (newly 21 college jocks and their anorexic girlfriends), the wrong kind of music (HOW do you dance to heavy metal?), the size of the place (suffocation with only 20 people in the room), and the lack of atmosphere all together (I went, I sat, I looked around.) Overall: Hated It!

Here's a fair warning to future goers of a club w/ DJ Tom Collins & for that matter Bill's Bar altogether. New Years at Bill's was one of my worst experiences! When I arrived with friends at 11pm, the music was way too loud and hard rock..aka Marilyn Manson & other music genres that proved impossible to dance to. By the time midnight came around, there was no change in music (even though the website advertised music as House/Hip Hop) and no champagne toast and/or party favors that was listed as included in the cover charge. ButI guess the old saying rings true yet once again, "What do you expect for only $15 dollars. In addition, the coat check was filled by 11pm, leaving the majority of party goers squeezing through the packed crowd trying to vie for a place to put their belongings. And I was not alone in my assessment of the evening. Many party goers stood aimlessly in a club for dancing, wondering what the @#* was being blasted into their ears. By the time it was 12:30, the lines in the door were null and nonexistant, while the lines out the door were overloaded with people, who like myself, were trying to cut their losses for the night and make the most of what was left of New Years' festivities. And one last tip for DJ Tim: Try to remember your earlier days at Ri-Ra's when hip-hop equated to people dancing and actually having a good time. File under First Annual LowDough for no go.

Tuesday nights at Bills's is bangin'. It gets a little crowded at times but it's all good. Best 19+ club in the city! Keep up the good work!
