This Federal-style house was built in 1830 by Essex shipwrights and reflects some of the same craftsmanship put into constructing the famous "Essex-built" schooners. You can get a great view of the surrounding salt marshes and the Essex River from the inn's three porches or balcony. Individual rooms are furnished with antiques or period reproductions; four of them have their own fireplaces and all have private baths. The day begins with a full country breakfast, which may include cranberry muffins or pina colada pancakes. The George Fuller House maintains a cruising sailboat that is available for lessons and day sails. --Kim Mattingly
