Fiddle strains of lively Irish music greet you upon entering Ned Divine's, but this 2002 addition to the Faneuil Hall area's bevy of Irish bars is far from a smoky Guinness tap room. The owners of The Harp and the swanky Solas designed a space that is fashionable and comfortable and attracted a leprechaun's share of the downtown after-work crowd. Black ironwork winds its way around the original Quincy Market brickwork in the expansive balcony of the main dining area and funky lighting fixtures illuminate the original hardwood floors. Seasonal menu items -- American fare with Celtic twists -- are all usually less than $20. Tried of lagers and ales? Slip next door for a martini in Parris Lounge, named not for the city, but for the building's architect. Then dash back and catch the next jig with several hundred others in Ned Divine's nightclub. You can find cover bands jamming as well as DJs spinning dance, house and Top 40 tunes. But note: proper dress is required. -- Theresa Edo
