Expect to see a lot of red, hunter green, black and white in this store full of preppy, practical classics. For years Talbots has been a terrific place to buy turtlenecks, corduroy pants, plaid skirts, pea coats, conservative suits and camelhair coats. These days, you might find a few trendier items, including leather skirts with matching zipper jackets, pants made with that fabulous fabric called tencel, and polyester/spandex dresses that feel like velvet. The store also carries denim pants and shirts, tasteful accessories and gorgeous silk/cashmere sweaters. The comfy lingerie doesn't try to compete with Victoria's Secret. The silk plaid pants with matching vest may not be for everyone but Talbots also carries many seasonal designs, including shirts, socks and scarves with images of Santa Claus, snowmen, wreaths and Christmas trees.
