Another burger joint, you ask? Not so fast. UBurger is a far cry from standard. All those exposes youve read and movies youve seen about the fast food industry? None of that applies here. UBurger is shorthand for "Uber-Burger" and the motto is Above All Burgers, which gives you some idea of how serious they are. With chrome counters and an open kitchen, the eatery has the look of a classic 1950s joint, right down to the aluminum chairs. You half expect to see Sandra Dee bounce through the door in a poodle skirt. The prices are pretty much in keeping with that retro look, but the nutritional awareness is a modern -- and much appreciated -- twist.Proving that "fast food" doesnt have to mean processed and preserved, founders Nick Kesaris and Spiro Kouvlis are sure to use beef thats all freshly ground each day on the premises and never frozen. Even the French fries are hand cut from Idaho potatoes and cooked in zero trans fat oil, though the real attraction are, of course, the burgers -- all grilled to order. Specialties include the Boom Burger, a quarter pound of chuck and sirloin beef with chipotle sauce, melted cheddar, lettuce, tomato and fried jalepenos; and the Cowboy Burger, smothered with BBQ sauce, melted pepper jack cheese, mushrooms and bacon. For those of the non-burger persuasion, there are also grilled chicken sandwiches and all beef Kayem hot dogs. This is fast food on the fast track to change.
