Walter Brown Arena has been home to Boston University's ice hockey team since its 1971-72 season. The team has been led by Head Coach Jack Parker for the last 25 years, who maintains a .675 winning percentage. The team's total at home record is an impressive 307-106-27. Walter Brown Arena holds 3,806 fans. A floor is often laid over the ice rink to support BU basketball games, concerts, professional tennis matches, and other university-sponsored events. The arena's namesake, Walter Brown was a native of Boston, who had a passion for hockey. Born in 1905, he was General Manager of the U.S. National Ice Hockey Team in the International Ice Hockey Federation's (IIHF) World Championships in 1931, 1933, 1934, 1936, 1947 and 1948. Brown led the team to the gold medal in 1933, and took home two silver medals and a bronze in other years. In 1937, Brown took over for his father as president of the Boston Gardens. where he continued to support ice hockey. He was elected president of the IIHF, aposition which he held from 1954 to 1957. He was vice president from 1948 to 1954, then again from 1960 to 1963. In 1960, Brown served as Chairman of the U.S. Olympic Ice Hockey Committee and helped select the gold-winning team. Brown was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1997.
