Rate and Write a Review If Marilyn Manson, Marilyn Monroe, Gwen Stefani, and the Baroque painter Rubens were to meet for drinks, they would go to District. Its gothic-chic motif is accented with birch tree trunks, patent leather banquettes, and black and white floral patterned parlor-like lampshades. Something of a cross between a sleek LA lounge, an enchanted forest, and a castle dungeon, it draws a stunningly mixed crowd of club-goers, stylish hipsters and business types ready to unwind in style. The glossy and cavernous restaurant is casual and quiet during lunchtime, when diners, often from the nearby Financial District, can indulge in anything from truffle frites to poached pear salads or a burger with bleu cheese and caramelized onions. At night, though, District gets seriously sassed up. Live DJs are spinning most nights and while most guests troll the stylish space with a potent cocktail in hand, you can sit down for dinner until 10PM if you like. For the rest of the night, you can order delectable snacks like arancini and shrimp tempura and "tater tots". (Don't worry, this is a very classy version of the cafeteria staple made with fontina cheese and roasted garlic.) Just try to time your order strategically. If you see the DJ is heating up, that may mean the night is about to hit dance mode, which is something I think both Marilyns can appreciate.
