Rate and Write a Review News Cafe's biggest asset is also its fatal flaw: its ambition to be all things to all people, at all hours of the day and night. Like Howard Johnson's with a metrosexual makeover, the Leather District multi-hyphenate (Is it a diner? A bistro? A lounge?) has a menu so extensive, it's been known to induce oblivion in late-night diners. Whether you're seeking a hangover-helper breakfast of eggs and toast or aim to circle the globe in a single meal (from nachos to sushi to Cubano sandwiches), few epicurean whims go unanswered here. This strategy predictably goes south with certain items, but it's possible to cobble together a fine meal by sticking to basics such as salads, sandwiches, omelettes and steak. You have to appreciate News for filling a void in the city's after-hours dining scene, which has historically consisted of sketchy dives and garishly lit outposts in Chinatown. Now clubbers seeking sustenance can find it in an atmospheric space equipped with Wi-Fi access, leather couches, a modest newsstand and a menu whose hits more than compensate for its misses.
