News Cafe's biggest asset is also its fatal flaw: its ambition to be all things to all people, at all hours of the day and night. Like Howard Johnson's with a metrosexual makeover, the Leather District multi-hyphenate (Is it a diner? A bistro? A lounge?) has a menu so extensive, it's been known to induce oblivion in late-night diners. Whether you're seeking a hangover-helper breakfast of eggs and toast or aim to circle the globe in a single meal (from nachos to sushi to Cubano sandwiches), few epicurean whims go unanswered here. This strategy predictably goes south with certain items, but it's possible to cobble together a fine meal by sticking to basics such as salads, sandwiches, omelettes and steak. You have to appreciate News for filling a void in the city's after-hours dining scene, which has historically consisted of sketchy dives and garishly lit outposts in Chinatown. Now clubbers seeking sustenance can find it in an atmospheric space equipped with Wi-Fi access, leather couches, a modest newsstand and a menu whose hits more than compensate for its misses.

GLASS! SAVE YOUR MONEY!

I will have to give you the short version, there is more to this story. We sat down, and the waitress came over to take our order. While in the middle of our order, this girl next to our table made a point to get our waitress attention. Even though I wasn't finished placing our order, without saying a word, the waitress walked away from us to get the change for the other table. We should of walked out then, BIG MISTAKE for not doing so. Normally I am not one to complain, but I scolded the rude customer for being on her high horse. When the waitress returned, she didn't apologize until I complained! She explained how the girl was rude and difficult all night. I understand how difficult costumers can be because I am in the restaurant business, but there is no excuse for the waitress's action. I asked for the manager. The manager's attitude was, 'the other customer was rude, so the waitress wasn't wrong'. My friend ordered a sandwich with a Diet Coke. I ordered french toast which came with a side order of fresh fruit. The serving of the french toast was small, nothing special about the taste. The fruit was WARM, which killed the flavor. What the cooks do was have a warm plate so the french toast stays hot, it just destroys the fruit. Ok, here is the "best part". My friend didn't finish her sandwich and she asks to bring it home. The next day for lunch she has the other half of her sandwich. Guess what she finds, GLASS!!! There was a big chunk of glass in the sandwich. In case you are wondering, yes she kicked herself for not finishing the sandwich at the restaurant They are lucky they don't have a lawsuit on their hand. SAVE YOU MONEY don't waist you time. They don't deserve the one star, I could only post if I hit a star.
