If you don't look carefully you're likely to miss this tiny basement shop, right at the corner of Massachusetts and Commonwealth avenues. The store is a haven for classical music lovers, with scores of old vinyl recordings and some modern CDs as well. The focus at Orpheus is on classical music and opera, and the store is well known in the Boston area by music connoisseurs. It's an odd little shop, though. In addition to the wealth of classical music, there are used videos like Forrest Gump , autographs and photographs of celebrities ranging from Gump himself, Tom Hanks, to Marlene Dietrich, several books about music, a small selection of non-classical music CDs and tapes, sheet music and antiques.
