It's time to go somewhere in Eastie that's not Logan International Airport. Santarpio's, near the expressway and six blocks from the T, is a Boston pizza institution that too few people know about. Its thin-crust pizza has a cult following and is extremely addictive; the white garlic is particular favorite of patrons. The only appetizers available are lamb kabobs and sausage -- these are also to-die-for delicious with their side of peppers and rustic Italian bread. The atmosphere could be considered odious or charming; take your pick as you experience the sassy wait staff and dingy dcor. But these two factors are not why people have been coming here for four generations. They come for the pizza. If you're looking for fancy appetizers, micro-brews or even a salad, this is not the place for you. Santarpio's is old-school: Get your pizza, get your beer and don't start any nonsense. The prices are old-school, too, with a large 12-inch pie (they only come in one size) costing around $10.

What a dump with disgusting pizza
By Blondiedayzez on 08/06/2008
You would get a MUCH MUCH MUCH better pizza from a box on the shelf at the grocery store. The staff is nasty. The place is filthy and talk about skimpy. Good grief... there is barely anything on the pizza. I suppose they talk a good game. Great pizza at this dump is more of an urban legend. My own foot would taste better.

Best Pizza I've Ever Eaten
By SoxPats1233 on 07/25/2008
This is the best pizza I've eaten in my whole life! Their pizza is simply perfect. It's no wonder Steven Tyler, Larry Bird, and the Sopranos ate there.
