Rate and Write a Review Douzu's Japanese cuisine has an elegant edge. If you're a sushi connoisseur, you've probably thinking, "I've been to Fugakyu; How much better than that can it get?" For Jack Huang, a former business partner at the famed Brookline sushi spot, the answer is: "Lots better." New Sensations: Douzu, Huang's latest sushi spot, is like the Taj Mahal of maki, complete with soaring 20-foot ceilings and an interior that evokes origami, with elegant scroll-like swatches hanging on the walls. Nestle into one of the banquettes or belly up to the sushi bar for modern Japanese cuisine spun off all the touchstones of tradition. Be sure to start with a plate of lime and salt-kissed endamame. The veggie tempura is light and crispy and the fried phyllo shrimp involves layers of shrimp, asparagus and paper-thin slips of pastry. Tuna tataki is delivered with a refreshingly citrus ponzy sauce, but the real accent mark here is on the freshness -- from the daily hand-shredded Wasabi to the deep sea fish at the sushi bar, like chutoro (fatty tuna) and sea urchin. Stay In or Roll Out: The Japanese word "douzu" means "please take this" or "please come in." With the tempting list of Asian-inspired cocktails that includes everything from sake flights and lychee martinis, it's hard to turn down that kind of welcoming invitation. But if you are in a rush and don't have time to lounge and loiter, Douzu's menu is available for take out.
