A Cambridge institution as much as a pizza shop, Emma's built a new home in Kendall Square, where it makes the same quality pie as ever. Owners Wendy Bower and David Rockwood bought the shop in the early '90s, and hey've more than preserved the reputation -- they've nurtured it to new heights. Emma's bakes pizzas that have what many fans call the perfect equation of thin crust, sweet tomato sauce, savory cheese and rich toppings. The crowd is a true mix of the people who make up Cambridge: professors, students and lab workers from around the neighborhood join families and pretty much anyone who enjoys a well-made slice. A wide assortment of great toppings, including goat cheese, sweet potato, smoked chicken and caramelized onions (a special favorite), build on the basics. In addition to pizzas, there are great salads and a good atmosphere that's appealing and friendly enough to keep you eating in rather than taking out.
