It's time to go somewhere in Eastie that's not Logan International Airport. Santarpio's, near the expressway and six blocks from the T, is a Boston pizza institution that too few people know about. Its thin-crust pizza has a cult following and is extremely addictive; the white garlic is particular favorite of patrons. The only appetizers available are lamb kabobs and sausage -- these are also to-die-for delicious with their side of peppers and rustic Italian bread. The atmosphere could be considered odious or charming; take your pick as you experience the sassy wait staff and dingy dcor. But these two factors are not why people have been coming here for four generations. They come for the pizza. If you're looking for fancy appetizers, micro-brews or even a salad, this is not the place for you. Santarpio's is old-school: Get your pizza, get your beer and don't start any nonsense. The prices are old-school, too, with a large 12-inch pie (they only come in one size) costing around $10.

I started going there when I was a kid, more than 50 years ago. It's as good now as it was then. Never changed and the quality is always good. I travel down from Andover whenever I get a taste for a good pizza. A treasure.

Sit down, take your coat off, and order from a real live server. a plain cheese pizza is great, but the garlic pizza is amazing! They have calzones, specialty pies... however, no salad. The steak tips...they are grilled over wood
