The third oldest zoo in the nation brings a little bit of wild to domestic Delaware Park. Working with zoos around the world to conserve endangered animals, the 23-plus acre Buffalo Zoo is home to hundreds of species you've probably never seen or heard of, such as Siberian tigers and giant Brazilian cockroaches. As part of its educational outreach program, the zoo also comes in a traveling format, bringing animals on tour to schools throughout WNY. Looking ahead, the first decade of the 21st century will introduce a whole new modern zoo, equipped with better features and accomodations for the animals. An entry plaza will show off high-pressure water jets to illustrate the story of Buffalo's connection to the Great Lakes. Other plans include a sea lion and river otter exhibit, Asian river and highlands zone, African watering hole, fully-enclosed South American rainforest building, Arctic edge, wonders of the water zone and a new and improved courtyard. These changes, when complete, will transform the Buffalo Zoo into a strong competitor with Toronto's menagerie just north of the border. -- Sean P. O'Neil

The directions are good since the zoo hasn't moved but the rates to get in and parking rates changed 3 years ago. They are not updated. The best thing to do is call.

Growing up in the metro Buffalo area, I never realized how wonderful our zoo is. After traveling around the country and seeing other zoos, Buffalo's rates higher than any that I have seen other than the National Zoo in Washington, DC! My niece & nephew from Orlando ALWAYS want to go to the Buffalo Zoo when they are in town. They live near Orlando and like our zoo better than many of the attractions in that area!

No, it's not a zoo to travel HOURS for, and it won't compare to the Bronx or the Toronto--- but it is 1/4 of the price and nicely done. I don't know how long ago Stone was there, but there are no 'small cages' anymore. They have been improving the zoo like crazy. And the otters are the best. In addition, Buffalo has to be doing something right--- we're having more endangered animals having babies and raising them themselves than most other Zoos in North America...
