Carloads of people come from all over town to this venerable Italian-American restaurant. Owner Lou Billitter worked his way up from dishwasher to full owner of what began, in 1923, as a small family restaurant. The dcor is classic Italian- American, dominated by the color of vino rosso and a taste for ornamentation evocative of the Mediterranean, such as gorgeous grape chandeliers. Chef's reputation rests firmly on its basic sauce, tangy and full-bodied with the moderate sweetness of thyme and tomatoes. All pasta is ordered la carte, so you have a choice of a huge plate or a small one to accompany an entre, and you can choose from gnocchi, rigatoni, spirals or spears, not to mention spaghetti. Mushrooms, massive meatballs and sausages are also options, as are alternative sauces: pesto, garlic and oil or butter, and con sarde with a generous amount of sarde. Traditional veal and chicken entres are expertly prepared. From the Chianti to the coffee and tiramis, Chef's demonstrates a commitment to the old favorites.

Their sauce is great. The ambiance is authentic. Call ahead for seating. They have really fast service or slow service if you want It's good for business and good for family. You won't be disappointed.

We love it!

We LOVE Chef's sauce, and everything about their food. True, if you do not like sweet sauce, you may be disappointed. We had our Son's wedding rehearsal dinner there 2 years ago and cannot say enough about the way were treated, the quality of the food, and the professionalism of the staff. Everyone in attendance was impressed. The only complaint I may offer is that the tables are very tight together in SOME parts of the restaurant making for an uncomfortable closeness. Still, all of my children, as well as my husband and I will pick Chef's hands down as the best spaghetti parm in Buffalo, and we've had it from many places locally.

If you like sweet sauce, you'll like Chef's. If you don't, try DoTondo's down the street, at least for lunch. Overall the food at Chef's is acceptable, but not memorable.
