Moving back to NYC
Recently moved to western NY from Brooklyn. I thought the
weather here was bad - the pizza is worse. If this is the best I'm in trouble.
Still a contender
I lived for a brief time in Buffalo more years ago than I care to remember (hints: Neil Armstrong landed on the moon and the Woodstock Nation was born that summer). Among my fond memories (yes, it's possible to be nostalgic about Western New York) was Bocce Club's pizza, less than a 5 minute drive from my house. Their "everything" pie was something to behold, and through many subsequent moves to other cities, among them the pizza meccas of Boston and Chicago, it shone like a touchstone against which the others were held up and compared.
Lo and behold, nearly 40 years later I now find myself living a little more than an hour from Bocce Club, although this time on the Canadian side of the border. So it was with a good deal of trepidation that the last time I was down Buffalo way I returned to the mother church seeking salvation.
Well, as objective as I can be given the long absence, the pizza remains quite good, although not quite the stuff of legends. It's hard to say if the quality has suffered or whether the torch has been passed, but Bocce Club still makes a decent pie that Buffalonians can be proud of. However, it's probably a little like seeing the prom queen at the 40th class reunion. She still has style if not in the same way.
The Best Pizza In Buffalo
I have been a loyal customer of Bocce Pizza for years and without a doubt consider their pizza to be the best in Buffalo. They serve up a huge 18" pie with an ample amount of toppings. Their signature sauce has the same great taste everytime. Prices are the lower than most other pizzerias. I live in South Buffalo and I drive out to the Amherst location on Bailey every time. It is worth the drive. Bring a blanket to wrap the box to keep it warm for the drive home. I have tried many other pizzas throughout Buffalo and the suburbs and although there are some good ones out there, no one can compare to the outstanding pizza that Bocce serves. My family used to order pizza on Friday nights from Bocce on Clinton St. when I was a kid in the early 70's. I am a fussy consumer and will not accept an inferior product no matter who it is. For the optimum experience order a pie with double cheese, double pepperoni and mushrooms. You will always be satisified. Stop in and see your pizza come out of the oven along with dozens others. They have not been in business for almost 50 years for nothing. Bocce is the best for pizza.
