New England Culinary Institute (NECI) uses Commons restaurant as a training ground for its students. The menu changes often but usually reflects the school's New England environs. The menu might include grilled rainbow trout with lentils, wilted spinach and butternut squash puree, or magic hat beer fish and chips with malted vinegar and house cole slaw. A brick oven provides pizza and calzone. Starters may include warm goat cheese and potato cake with mesclun greens and balsamic essence or simple fried calamari. Prices reflect the training nature of the restaurant: a sirloin steak with Vermont cheddar mashed potatoes and grilled red onions that might cost you $26 in Boston will only cost you $14.50. -- K.F. Soups at lunch great!
Soup at lunch was superb.
Dinner started out with a waiter that couldn't recommend anything "I've never eaten here". Dinner was good but I think having a waiter that can make recommendations would have provide better insight on what to order.

I think the only people who would not enjoy this restaurant are ones who want a meat, potato, and mushy vegetable dinner. Here the food is always different, well prepared, and unusually good. It's one of Church Street's finest, if not the best.
