Founded in 1972, by brothers Malcolm and James Burgis, The Windjammer is either a volleyball court that doubles as a bar, or a bar that doubles as a volleyball court, depending on who you ask. Amateur tournaments are held during the summer months, and live local acts play nearly every night of the year. Come on the right night and you might catch Hootie and the Blowfish frontman (and Charleston native) Darius Rucker tossing back a few with some buddies. The clubs nine TV screens are usually tuned to whichever sport is in season, but, really, whos going to watch TV with everything else going on. (Dan Avery)

My dad is a Charelston native and everytime we go back there we go by the Windjammer for a hamburger and fries. The best hangout spot in town.

The windjammer is great! But, for the record, it would be nice if you put more pictures of the Windjammer nad other Isle of palms locations in your website. It would be more appealing to tourists, and would be comforting to those of us who are tied up in other places. I've been on the internet for like three hours trying to find some pictures of Charleston, and have had no luck. It's a shame, too, because it's such a great place. I miss being down there, and am having a hard time being comforted without pictures. This probably means absolutely nothing to you, but you're the only people I felt I had a chance to address this problem. Thanks, AJ in KY
